A memorial book for the late Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani was opened at the Iranian Permanent Mission to the UN in New York on Wednesday. The office would be open to the diplomats from around the world to pay their tribute to the late Iranian figure.
Since the opening of the book at the Iranian Permanent Mission to the UN many of foreign ambassadors, representatives, and deputy representatives have signed the book to express their condolences and offer sympathies to the people and government of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Also at the meeting of the ambassadors from the OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) countries, the representatives and ambassadors of Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Turkey offered their sympathies to Gholamali Khoshrou, Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN.
A memorial ceremony for the deceased Ayatollah would be held at Imam Ali Mosque of New York on Saturday evening after the prayers for the Iranian expatriate living in the US.
Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani passed away after a heart failure on Sunday January 08 in Tehran. He served as the Speaker of Iran’s Parliament in 1980-1989 before winning the presidential election of 1989. After two terms in Pasteur Street Office he remained as the Chairman of Iran’s Expediency Council, the post he held till his death.
