Nouri al-Maliki made the remark in a meeting with Leader’s senior adviser and Head of Strategic Research Center Ali Akbar Velayati on Tuesday in Tehran.
The Iraqi senior official added that his country is ready to form a strong front and stronghold against any potential plots and threats devised by enemies following the eradication of ISIL terrorists from Iraq.
“Despite the victories achieved, we are still doubtful that settling this conflict will not lead to another one in the future,” he said, adding “our visit to Iran comes at the invitation of our Iranian brothers in order to hold a meeting with Iranian Leader under such critical conditions in the region and the world.”
He went on to add, “we are hoping that the visit will further expand cooperation between the two countries.”
The Iranian official, for his part, commended Iraq’s dignified position in the Arab and Muslim world as well as on the international scene, deeming the role of Mr. al-Maliki the deciding factor.
Velayati then voiced his deepest regret over the recent terrorist attacks in Baghdad, adding “these desperate attempts of the enemies will lead to nowhere, and the ultimate triumph belongs to the Iraqi nation and government.”
He went on to add, “the liberation of Aleppo is not only a victory for our brothers in Syria, but also a victory for Iraq, Iran and the Resistance Front.”
“We will soon witness the return of Mosul into the arms of the Iraqi nation, and the greedy hands of aggressors will be soon severed off this important and strategic city by Iraqi Army and the People's Mobilization Forces,” he said.
