Mohammad Javad Zarif, the Ministr of the Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran addressed the political thinkers and theoreticians of Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA) at Tokyo’s Hotel Okura on Thursday.
“The nuclear deal is not a bilateral agreement between Iran and US to be reneged easily by one side of the contract or to be called for a new round of negotiations by one side of it but it is based upon direct participation of the European Union and has been affirmed by the UN’s resolution.”
“To me, it is better for the US and all the other side of the agreement to be committed to this international pact because the best alternative of the Americans would be to have their anti-Iran sanctions as they had them before the JCPOA was brokered and hence what would be the benefits for the US if they could re-establish the sanctions,” asserted the Iranian top diplomat, “if the US could destroy our economy, why did they shared the table with us from the very beginning?”
Mr. Zarif reassured the thinkers present at the venue that Iran’s security is based upon democracy and the will of the nation, however, the administration is ready and willing to interact with the world, but the cut of ties cannot kill Iran.
“All these were proving the inefficacy of the sanctions and unbreakable will of Iranians,” said the chief of Iran’s diplomacy touching upon the growth and development of his country at the time of sanctions, “so we along with the friends at the international community continue our efforts to implement the JCPOA.”
The Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA) is a private, nonpartisan and policy-oriented think tank that focuses on foreign affairs, security issues and international and regional crises.
