‘Soyuq’ (Coldness) directed by Bahnam and Bahram Ark won the Best Director Award in the main competition section as well as Best Scrip Award in the Young Jury section.
‘Tajrish…an Unfinished Story’ directed by Pourya Azarbaijani also won the Best Script Award at the Spanish film festival.
Casa Asia Film Week (CAFW) was held on 12-16 November in Barcelona, Spain, hosting the best Asian cinema of the latest years. More than 40 films, mostly unknown, were allowed to get to know the current cinema that is distributed outside commercial circuits and, at the same time, to make a realistic portray of the Asian societies of the 21st century.
According to the festival’s website, the films at this year’s edition were mosly drama, but other genres such as comedy, action, documentary or animation were also presented.
Casa Asia Film Week also gave special treatment to Iranian cinema. The festival describes Iranian cinema as having achieved great success years ago, with directors such as Abbas Kiarostami, Bahman Ghobadi or Samira Makhmalbaf. “The award to the Best Script for Tales by Rakhshan Bani-E'temad at the last Festival of Venice proves that this cinema is alive,” the website said.
Films from Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, South Korea, Philippines, India, Indonesia, Iran, Japan, Kazakhstan, etc. were screened at the event.
