To continue their unbeaten-run, Iranian national team of beach soccer defeated their Russian rivals 3-1 at penalty kick-outs on Thursday to advance to the semi-final of the 2016 Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup underway in the UAE.
Three-time Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup champion Russia were to lose 3-2 just 50 seconds to the final whistle of the match when their Alexsey Makarov scored the equalizer and the game was extended to three minute extra time which saw no goal and the penalty kick-outs were left to settle the 3-3 tie.
At the top of Group B with 7 points, Iranians are 1 point ahead of the Russian and will meet the second team of group A, Tahiti who were humiliated by Brazilians 10-4 on Thursday.
The next to play for Russians are the South American giants of Brazil. The winner of the match will fight for the title with the winner of Iran-Tahiti match.
