TEHRAN, Nov. 02 (MNA) – Iranian President Hassan Rouhani congratulated Iran's Karate team on winning the third title in the Karate World Championships held in Linz, Austria.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani in a message posted to his Twitter and Instagram accounts on Tuesday night congratulated the National Iranian Karate team for winning the third place at the 2016 Karate World Championship. This is the first time the Iranian Karate team has managed to win a world title at the international events.

The 23rd round of Karate World Championships took place from 25 October to 30 October 2016 place in Tips Arena of the Austrian city of Linz. Some 2000 athletes and coaches from 118 nations participated in the event.

Overall, Iran bagged three gold and three bronze medals in Austria to land third at the Karate World Championships.

Amir Mehdizadeh, Sajjad Ganjzadeh and Male Team Kumite clinched gold trophies for Iran while Aliasghar Asiabari, Zabihollha Pourshib stood on the third podium. Hamideh Abbasali, meanwhile, was the only female athlete who managed to bag a medal for Iran by finishing in the third place.
