TEHRAN, Oct. 24 (MNA) – Chance of Iranian short film 'The Silence' directed by Ali Asgari and Farnoush Samadi increased to be included in the initial list of Academy Awards.

The Silence rose its chance to be present in the initial list of Academy Awards after the movie received HIFF's prize for Best Narrative Short Film.

Hamptons International Film Festival (HIFF), an annual five-day event in mid-October and which is held in theatre venues located in the Long Island area of New York, primarily showcases short films, documentaries and narrative films and is a qualifying festival for the Academy Awards.

Produced by Giovanni Pompilli of the Italian production company Kino Produzioni and co-produced by Olivier Chantriaux from Filmo, the short film tells the story of a young Kurdish refugee Fatima who has to let her mother know about her serious medical condition. Instead of delivering the truth, Fatima remains silent. The film is made in Kurdish, English and Italian languages.

The Silence has so far attended the competition sections of some prestigious festivals, including London and Cannes festivals winning prizes like Best Director Award at Iran Cinema Celebration.
