The 2016 Youth World Weightlifting Championships is currently underway in Penang of Malaysia and the action will run through October 25.
On Saturday, Iran’s Hossein Soltani managed to stand on the second podium in the men’s 69kg event at the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Youth World Weightlifting Championships.
Soltani won the overall silver with a 295kg finish after lifting 131kg in snatch (bronze) and 164kg in clean and jerk (silver).
In the same weight category, CJ Cummings of the US won the title and broke his own Youth World Record with a total of 317 kilograms while a Turkish lifter Ferhat Yazici landed third with 291 kilograms overall.
Also at 77kg division, Iran’s Ahmad Ahmadnejad and Taghi Aghazadeh stood in fourth and fifth places respectively.
Ahmadnejad achieved a great accomplishment by winning the bronze medal of clean and jerk. The Iranian athlete’s 169kg clean and jerk, lifted on his third attempt, bright him a bronze medal while he lifted a total of 303 kilograms to finish fourth overall.
Iran has sent a full squad of eight men to the international sportive event which is being held in Penang, Malaysia from October 19 to 25.
