Organized at the highest professional level, the event took place on October 16 in Yerevan where Iran’s Rostami clocked one hour and 14 minutes (01:14:03.72) to stand on the third podium at the 21.1 km section.
In the same division, Kharazishvili Daviti of Georgia won the title with a record of 01:09:30.53 while a host country athlete bagged the silver medal by clocking 01:12:28.55.
More than 500 sportspeople from various countries participated in Yerevan Half Marathon while only 298 of the runners managed to reach the finish line.
Competed in four divisions of 1 km race for kids, 5 and 10 km for beginners and 21.1 km for experienced runners, Yerevan Half Marathon is certified by AIMS (Association of International Marathons and Distance Races) and its course complies with international standards.
Even though marathon was one of the original modern Olympic events in 1896, its distance was standardized in 1921.
More than 500 marathon competitions are held across the world annually, and a great proportion of participants are recreational athletes.
