Along with five other athletes, Iran’s Rahman was nominated for the Best Male Athlete of the Month title by the International Olympic Committee (IPC).
A week after nominations, the Iranian powerlifter earned 64 percent of the votes to win the IPC Athlete of the Month award for September.
Siamand Rahamn was followed by Colombian swimmer Carlos Serrano who landed second and Belarusian swimmer Ihar Boki who finished third. Swiss wheelchair racer Marcel Hug, Belgian table tennis player Laurens Devos and Australian wheelchair tennis player Dylan Alcott were other nominees.
Rahman, whose earlier record stood at 296 kilograms, pushed an incredible 310kg world record for gold in Men's +107kg Group A at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.
The IPC Athlete of the Month award for September is being separated into three different categories including Best Male Athlete, Best Female Athlete and Best Team based on results at Rio 2016.
