TEHRAN, Oct. 12 (MNA) – Attending Ashura mourning processions on Wed., President Rouhani expressed hope that people of Yemen, Syria and Iraq would soon be liberated from the clutches of terrorists and aggressors.

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani attended Ashura mourning processions held at the holy shrine of Hazrat Abdolazim in Rey County, southern Tehran, on Wednesday.

“The beloved Iranian nation took to the scene this year with a more passionate and stronger presence than ever to once again pledge their allegiance to the culture of Ashura and the glorious path of Imam Hussein,” President said to reporters.

He further stressed the need for more fervor and efforts in continuing the path of the third Shia Imam and keeping alive the culture of Ashura, the 10th day of the lunar month of Muharram which marks the martyrdom and sacrifices of Imam Hussein and his family and companions during the battle of Karbala against the second Umayyad caliph, Yazid, in 680 AD. 

President Rouhani then referred to the catastrophic situation of people in Yemen, Syria and Iraq, adding “I pray at this reverent time of the year that the Yemeni people who are under brutal bombardment of invaders, as well as people of Syria and Iraq who are under terrorist attacks, be able to free themselves from the scourge of terrorism and aggression with the help of God.”

President Rouhani was accompanied by Chief of Staff of Presidential Office Mohammad Nahavandian, Tehran Governor-General Hossein Hashemi and Rey Governor Hedayatollah Jamalipour.
