Members of the Guardian Council have approved of the suggestion made by the Iranian Interior Ministry for holding the next presidential election of the Islamic Republic of Iran on May 19 in the year 2017.
The decision was made during the Wednesday morning meeting of the Guardian Council in the wake of recent correspondence of interior minister with Secretary of the Council Ayatollah Ahmad Jannati.
Given that the Guardian Council is not in charge of supervising city council elections, the members have not made a decision on the dates for these elections.
However, according to a Parliament’s bill that presidential and city council elections should be held simultaneously, the Interior Ministry will make preparation for holding both events on the mentioned date.
