MD Abbas Azimi, Secretary of the 19th edition of the conference told reporters on Sunday that the conference would share latest applications of ophthalmology and optometry including in clinical imaging, progressive addition lenses, impaired vision, optometry, latest clinical and laboratory findings, certain examinations before and after refractive surgery and the latest research on systemic diseases and their destructive effects on vision, among a host of issues.
“The conference will also address optometrists’ integrity in serving the society,” added professor of ophthalmology in Mashhad University of Medical Sciences. “The latest findings in design and manufacture of medical glasses, elderly optometry and visual rehabilitation, occupational ethics and code of conduct in optometry, keratoconus, contact lenses, children prescriptions, strabismus, diabetes and other systemic diseases of impact on vision, and a two workshops in manufacture of fraction and absorption medical glasses, and MATLAB and Zemax software training are topics of the conference,” he told reporters.
“A central part of the conference is medical ethics and morals which will be addressed by specialist panelists; 84 papers have been admitted into the secretariat with 50 of them being in speech and 16 others presented in posters,” Azimi detailed. “Optometrists now provide wide range of services and medications across the country, the most important of which is screening of children for detection and timely treatment of amblyopia and other visual disorders which provides golden age (under 6) opportunity to prevent serious visual impairments.”
19th National Optometry Conference will be held in Tehran’s Razi Conference Hall, August 10-12.
