With the timely appearance of Iranian Navy’s 41st fleet early Saturday in the vicinity of Bab el-Mandeb Strait located between Yemen on the Arabian Peninsula, and Djibouti and Eritrea in the Horn of Africa, 115 armed pirates sailing on 12 boats who were planning to attack an Iranian-owned oil tanker were forced to flee the scene.
According to the reports, the pirates made another aggressive attack on the tanker within the next three hours, but the attack was once again foiled by Martyred Admiral Naghdi Destroyer belonging to the Iranian Navy’s 41st fleet.
The 41st fleet, also comprising ‘Lavan’ logistic warship, escorted the oil tanker to a secure region.
The fleet was dispatched to open seas and international waters early this June to deliver the Islamic Republic’s message of peace and friendship to regional countries and conduct anti-piracy patrols to safeguard the vessels involved in maritime trade, especially the ships and oil tankers owned or leased by Iran.
