TEHRAN, Jul. 02 (MNA) – Iranian cadet wrestlers will depart for Taiwan to compete at the 2016 Cadet Asian Championship.

Organized by Taiwan Wrestling Association, the tournament will kick off on Thursday July 7 in the city of Taichung in Greco-Roman, Freestyle and Female categories.

Iran will deploy national cadet Greco-Roman and Freestyle wrestling team to the continental event which will last for three days.

Two referees’ courses and a technical conference are scheduled to be held on July 5 and 6 ahead of the tournament.

Iran freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling teams won the title at 2015 Asian cadets wrestling championships in India, New Delhi.

Freestylers of Iran came first with two gold and 5 silver medals gaining 77 points overall followed by host India (74 points) and Uzbekistan (59 points) who landed second and third, respectively.

In Greco-Roman, Iran obtained one gold, 6 silver and one bronze medal to stand on the top podium as Kazakhstan (65 points) and Kyrgyzstan (63 points) stood second and third, respectively.

Asian Wrestling Championships is the Wrestling Asian Championship organized by the Asian Associated Wrestling Committee (AAWC).
