TEHRAN, Jun. 20 (MNA) – Iran’s national basketball team won the title at the second edition of Atlas Challenge 2016 held in Beijing.

Attended by eight teams, the second edition of Canny Elevator Cup International Basketball Challenge also known as the 2016 Atlas Challenge came to an end on Sunday evening with the Iranian squad competing the final match against Lithuania.

Basketball players of Iran, who had finished runner-up in the first edition of the tournament, managed to quell Lithuania 85-70 winning the trophy in the sportive event.

Participation in the Atlas Challenge, which took place at Suzhou Sports Center in Suzhou of China, marked a preparatory stage for the national team before the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament which will convene in Italy’s Turin from July 4 to 9.

The Iranian squad will arrive back home today while they are scheduled to leave for Latvia in a few days in order to compete two frisndly matches against New Zealand as well as Latvia.

Basketball players of Iran will then travel to Lithuania to participate in a sportive camp before departing for Italy, the venue for the Olympic qualifying event.
