TEHRAN, Jun. 19 (MNA) – Iranian representatives at 80 and 98kg weight groups finished first at the Poland Open, Ziolkowski & Pytlasinski 2016.

The LIX International W. Pytlasinski Memorial devoted to senior Greco-Roman wrestling competitions are underway in Poland’s Spała on 17-19 June.

Iranian athletes, Ramin Taheri (80kg) and Mahdi Aliyari (98kg) won the title of their respective weight categories while Mehrdad Mardani (59kg) only managed to land seventh.

Despite the early victories over Venezuelan and Ukrainian rivals in the first two rounds, Iran’s Mardani conceded a 4-3 defeat against the eminent Kyrgyz wrestler Arsen Eraliev and dropped out of the tournament.

Competing in 80-kilogram weight group, Ramin Taheri of Iran struck an off draw in the first round while he trounced the Armenian competitor 10-1 in the second. Later, he had to breeze past the Finnish rival 8-0 on road to the semifinal stage where he downed Péter Bácsi of Hungary 6-3.

In his final encounter, Taheri prevailed over Paul Pominchuk of Belarus in order to stand on top of the podium.

Similarly, Iran’s 98kg representative Mahdi Aliyari performed a technical fall over the Lithuanian Greco-Roman wrestler in the first round before he met and overwhelmed the Georgian rival 2-0 by fall.

The Iranian Greco-Roman wrestler routed host Poland’s Marcin Olejniczak to secure a place in the semifinals where he won against the well-known Hungarian athlete Balázs Kiss 10-2.

Aliyari got the better of the Cuban wrestler in the final round and secured the gold medal of the sportive event.

Competitions for 66, 75, 85 and 130kg weight categories are underway today June 19 in Poland.
