“I hope to travel to Tehran at the nearest possible occasion,” said Finnish President Sauli Niinistö, on Tuesday, after receiving the formal invitation of President Hassan Rouhani of Iran, submitted by Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.
President Sauli Niinistö voiced his gratification for being invited to Iran and hoped to have the visit in the nearest future. The chief of Iran’s diplomatic system and the Finnish President also discussed the latest regional developments of the Middle East, trying to find the best ways in countering the global challenge of terrorism. Issues of bilateral interests were the other areas of Zarif-Niinistö talks.
Zarif met with Finnish president after holding bilateral meetings with his Finnish counterpart, Timo Soini, The speaker of the Parliament of Finland, Eero Heinäluoma, and former Finnish President Martti Ahtisaari.
Iranian Foreign Minister Zarif arrived at Helsinki Airport early Tuesday as the second leg of his tour of Baltic Sea and Scandinavian countries. Zarif will depart for the Swedish capital Stockholm Tuesday night after intensive meetings and lectures in Helsinki.
