HELSINKI, May 31 (MNA) – Iranian FM held talks with former Finnish President Martti Ahtisaari and counterpart Timo Soini on Tue. in Helsinki as the second leg of his tour of Europe.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif arrived in Finland early Tuesday following his visit to Poland and participated in Helsinki Policy Forum on the topic of regional issues as the first program on his agenda during his one-day visit to the European country.

The forum which was held behind closed doors and without the presence of media, was focused on opportunities and challenges facing the security in the Middle East, where FM Zarif delivered a speech on the significance and necessity of regional dialogue as a way to reduce tensions and settle conflicts.

Following the forum, Zarif held talks with former President of Finland, Martti Ahtisaari, at his private office where the two sides discussed and examined the current crises gripping the regions in western Asia and the possible ways to end them.

The Iranian foreign minister then met with his Finnish counterpart Timo Soini at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland. The two sides are slated to attend a joint press conference today.
