TEHRAN,August 11 (Mehr News Agency)-- Deputy defense minister, brigadier general Hussein Dehqan said that enhancement of capabilities and development of defense studies is one of the main goals of armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran which is followed as a major target.

Speaking at the fifth meeting of the defense studies, he added "Defense capability is one of the serious and determining elements of national power."

Referring to the recent remarks of the Leader, he said we are preparing ourselves for any threat and chanllege.

In  a recent remark, the Aytollah Khamenei said the coalition of the United States and Zionist regime against the sacred system of the Islamic Republic of Iran is one of its major challenges.

The coalition has not been created recently, but the enmity of U.S. against Iran started from the beginning of the victory of the Islamic Revolution. Of course, the reasons for for U.S. hostility are quite obvious.

Dehqan stressed that so long as the Islamic Republic of Iran insists on its sacred values such enmities will continue, adding that U.S. and Zionist regimes will give up their hostility if we quit our commitment to our sacred values or if they give up hopes.

If we suppose that these threats are permanent and if we are aware of the fact that our national security depends on warding off these threats, we come to the conclusion that we should enhance our defense capabilities and should find appropriate ways to strengthen it.

Stressing on the fact that we have to provide our armed forces not only with new systems but also with modern logistics and defense know-how,  he added only in such a situation we can resist an uneven campaign.

Regarding the world sanctions imposed on the Islamic Republic of Iran in military sector and some internal restrictions, he said we must realize the weaknesses of our enemies and direct our defense enhancements toward those weaknesses.

We should accept our limitations and recognize our needs so that we can march ahead towards setting our priorities and fulfilling our objectives.

He called the sacred defense (Iran-Iraq war of 1980-1988) which was a confrontation between the Islamic Republic of Iran and an anti-revolutionary front as a precious experience for the country.

This experience will help us gain a propoer vision regarding our defense capability. It will put us in the right stance.

Dehqan said "Holding a defense conference has been a serious discussion for a long time but in the existing situation in the region we decided to speed it up."

Referring to the importance of the research studies in defense fields, he said "Defense studies can open give us new insight. But doing research in itself is not useful, he said adding, the research is fruitful which answers our defense requirements.

In this conference we should get familiar with the research centers inside and outside the country to manage purposeful associations with them, he added.
