TEHRAN, May 09 (MNA) – The first Iran-Japan Symposium on ‘Women, Peace and Sustainable Development’ is currently underway at Foreign Ministry's Institute for Political and International Studies in Tehran.

The symposium is attended by Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, who had also served as Iran’s ambassador to Japan, Vice President for Women and Family Affairs, Shahindokht Molaverdi, Vice President of Iran and head of Environmental Protection Organization Masoumeh Ebtekar, Chairperson of Foundation for Encouragement of Social Contribution (FESCO) Akie Abe, Chairperson of the Nippon Foundation Yohei Sasacawa, and many other Japanese and Iranian reporters.

Other participants include Japan’s Ambassador to Tehran Kuji Haneda, and Maryam Imanieh, the wife of Foreing Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.

The symposium has been organized by Vice Presidency for Women and Family Affairs in collaborating with Foreign Ministry's Institute for Political and International Studies and Japan’s Sasakawa Foundation.

The event is held in Tehran for the first time and its next session will be hosted by Tokyo Sasakawa Peace Foundation next year. 

During the event, Iranian and Japanese officials made speeches on the position and role of women in promoting peace and sustainable development.
