TEHRAN, Apr. 22 (MNA) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry Jaberi Ansari roundly condemned the recent ruling by US Supreme Court against Iran, saying it contradicts the basic principles of international law.

Hossein Jaberi Ansari made the remarks in reaction to a recent ruling by the US Supreme Court on the transfer of about $2bn of frozen Iranian assets to the families of victims of the 1983 bombing in Beirut, adding “the ruling by the US Supreme Court has made a mockery of justice and law, and will not create any rights for the American nationals.”

Jaberi Ansari went on to clarify, “this ruling is a blatant misappropriation of the Islamic Republic’s assets, and naturally, the responsibility of making reparations to Iran because of this ruling falls on the US government."

“The ruling reflects the continuing influence of Zionist circles on the US government, as well as the US continued hostile actions against Iran,” said the Iranian diplomat.

These will only make the Iranian people and government all the more distrustful of the US hostile policies, he added.

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif who is currently in New York, said the US government is “well aware of the fact that Iran does not recognize the ruling and if they take any measures against the assets of the Islamic Republic, they will be complied to compensate for it and return Iran’s assets.”
