The second day of the 25th edition Asian Judo Championships (AJC) is dedicated to competitions of judokas in heavy weight categories where five Iranian athletes face rivals.
In -90kg group, Iran’s Saeid Moradi thrashed the Indonesian judo practitioner in the first round by technical fall before be defeated Hajj Mohammadov of Turkmenistan in the second round.
Moradi conceded a defeat against the Uzbek rival in the quarterfinal stage moving to the losers’ group where he will compete against India’s Budhia Awooga Singh in an attempt to bag the bronze medal.
The other Iranian representative at the event, Saeid Molaei in -81kg struck an off draw in the first round while he performed a technical fall against the Japanese judoka yet he has to out power a Lebanese rival on road to the finals.
Iran’s 100-kg judoka, Javad Mahjoub downed Mohammad Tawfiq Bakhshi of Afghanistan by technical fall in the first round before he overwhelmed the Tajik rival while he has to face Mongolia’s Olympic gold medalist Naidangiin Tüvshinbayar in a tough semifinal encounter en route to the finals.
Meanwhile, Iran judokas Ahmad Nadeghi (+100) and Zahra Bagheri (-78kg) were defeated by Tajik and Taiwanese athletes in the first round dropping out of the tournament.
Attended by 235 judokas from 30 countries, 25th edition of Asian Judo Championships in individual and team sections is underway from 15th to 17th April 2016 at Sports Complex, Tashkent.
