TEHRAN, Mar. 18 (MNA) – A new round of oil and gas explorations in Iran has begun with the participation of two major Russian companies, ‘Rosgeologia’ and ‘Lukoil’.

Under the agreement on joint study on geological and geophysical oil and gas exploration between National Iranian Oil Company and Lukoil, as the largest oil company in Russia, the Russian company is required to study the condition of hydrocarbon oil traps and subsurface geological structures in West Karun oilfields in the southern Khuzestan Province and Abadan Plain.

Rosgeologia also announced that it has commenced its cooperation with National Iranian Oil Company on studies related to seismic results of a number of gas and oilfeilds in Iran in order to make necessary preparations for the explorations.

Stressing the fact that these studies will be carried out within the framework of an agreement signed with Lukoil Company, Rosgeologia continued, “under the agreement, Dalmore Geophysica oil company, in affiliation with Rosgeoligca, has begun its studies on seismic documents in the previous years related to the Persian Gulf and Abadan Plain."  

The exploration management of National Iranian Oil Company had previously announced the value of the exploration project with Russia’s Lukoil Company stands at about $6 million to be fully provided by the Russian company.
