Trade and economic relations between Iran and Australia in the period after the lifting of sanctions as well as resolving banking problems to further boost bilateral economic and trade relations formed the main axes of the meeting held on Tuesday morning between Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and the Australian Minister for Trade and Investment Steven Ciobo.
Following the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Australia terminated its sanctions against Iran on March 2 announcing that Iranian businessmen would not need to obtain a permit for trade transactions reaching over $14,436.
Zarif and Ciobo discussed venues for expansion of bilateral ties in several arenas including water resources management, modern agriculture technologies, air transport as well as exploiting innovative technologies for water saving.
Iran’s foreign minister pointed out Iran’s capacity as a link between world countries and Central Asia, the Caucasus and Afghanistan as well as tourism potential of the country urging Australia to make investments in these areas.
Australia's trade and investment minister, referring to the lifting of sanctions against Iran, said Australia seeks to normalize relations with Iran strengthening mutual ties in various sectors.
