Both Iran and Hungary enjoy great capacities to develop bilateral cooperation in different areas including nuclear energy, said András Aradszki, Secretary of State for Energy in the Ministry of National Development of Hungary on Thursday.
The official made the remarks in his meeting with Ali Akbar Salehi who heads Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) in Budapest where the Iranian official is visiting upon the invitation made by Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
At the beginning of the meeting Aradszki referred to his presence at the recent visit made by a Hungarian delegation to Tehran headed by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán during which many agreements were reached and signed.
Even in the time of anti-Iran sanctions, Hungary kept its ties with Iran having educational and nuclear cooperation under the supervision of The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), highlighted the Hungarian official voicing willingness for expansion of ties.
The Hungarian secretary of state for energy in the ministry of national development held that many countries are after new sources of energy like renewable and new energies, after the consequences of fossil fuels, and Hungary has made some movements on the same path.
Natural gas as a cheap and clean source of energy is also considered by Hungarian government, added Aradszki.
During the same meeting, Ali Akbar Salehi, the top nuclear energy official of the Islamic Republic of Iran, touched upon the unfair sanctions against Iran and said that the sanctions had economic consequences for Iran, however, they made the Iranian scientists rely upon themselves; something which led to Iran’s self-sufficiency in the technology for enriching uranium to 20 percent purity.
Salehi proposed to have nuclear experts of the countries to meet and find the way for joint projects. The Hungarian side welcomed the offer and it was agreed to be scheduled in the near future.
Forming joint commissions of bilateral cooperation and signing MoUs were the other agreements made in the meeting.
