Al Muallem said that the Syrian Government and its delegation to Geneva showed credibility and seriousness in backing efforts to solve the crisis, and made emphasis on the need of fulfilling the resolution of the UN Security Council about the presence of a bigger spectrum of the opposition.
In the meeting, the Syrian Foreign minister explained the State's efforts to protect its citizens and the distribution of humanitarian aid, chiefly in the zones controlled by terrorist groups.
In that sense, Al Muallem said that the government will continue protecting the population based on its responsibilities with its citizens, and said that those efforts have nothing to do with the Geneva meetings.
Al Muallem stressed the need of lifting the unfair unilateral measures imposed by the United States and the European Union, which have chiefly contributed to increase the suffering of the Syrian people.
For his part, De Mistura made reference to the recent Geneva meeting that had been suspended, and the current efforts for resuming talks between the Syrian Government and the opposition groups late this month.
The UN special envoy also spoke about the meeting of the International Support Group to Syria recently held in Munich, the efforts aimed at implementing the accords reached in that meeting, as well as the Vienna declarations and the UN Security Council resolutions.
