TEHRAN, Feb. 15 (MNA) – A fresh round of talks convened between Iran and Cyprus here on Sunday aiming to expedite activities between the European country’s banks and the fleet of Iranian oil tankers.

The new round of Iran-Cyprus oil and banking negotiations was held in Tehran on Sunday with the attendance of Managing Director of National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) Ali Akbar Safaei and Cyprus’s Communications Ministry Permanent Secretary Alecos Michaelides.

Iran’s Safaei described the reached agreements during the meeting saying “the existing complications between NITC and a Cypriot bank will soon get resolved.”

The official expressed NITS’s willingness to boost ties with Cyprus in various maritime fields asserting “talks are underway with the European country’s companies and Iran aims to cooperate with Cyprus at an international level.”

Alecos Michaelides, for his part, announced his country’s eagerness to reinvigorate oil relations with NITC; “as a maritime country, Cyprus is ready to collaborate with Iran in maritime transport and other related areas.”

“Cyprus is also eager to cooperate and help in resolving the ongoing banking issues with NITC,” he reiterated.
