TEHRAN, Jan. 06 (MNA) – Iranian Deputy FM Amir-Abdollahian and his Russian counterpart Mikhail Bogdanov in a telephone conversation on Wed. discussed the ongoing regional developments.

During the phone talk today, the two diplomats conferred on the various ways the recent agreements regarding a political solution for Syria could be implemented and highlighted the need for all involved sides to abide by a political approach and the exclusion of terrorist groups as the only way to settle the crisis.

Bogdanov further described the recent political agreements on Syria during the meetings of the International Syria Support Group (ISSG) as ‘a step forward’, deeming the role of the Islamic Republic of Iran in strengthening and promoting the political process in the region ‘significant’.

Meanwhile, Iran, Switzerland and Syria held a trilateral meeting today in Tehran in a bid to review the political solutions to resolve the Syrian crisis.

According to Amir-Abdollahian, investigating strategies for dispatching humanitarian aid to the Syrian people was also on the agenda of the meeting. 

The foreign-backed militancy in Syria, which flared in March 2011, has so far claimed the lives of over 250,000 people and displaced millions.
