Smartening the electricity network of Iran is the first priority of Iran’s electricity industry in post-sanctions era, said Seyyed Hossein Sajjadi, Managing Director of Iran’s Organization of Energy Efficiency (IOEE) on Wednesday in Tehran.
The official recounted that the plan to change electricity meters to smart meters has been piloted in some areas of the country.
Two thousand smart meters have been so far installed in the pilot phase of the project in some areas of Tehran, Karaj, Zanjan, Mashhad, Bushehr, and Ahvaz, noted the official.
He also said that the whole cost of changing into new system has been paid by the government and the users are charged no fee; a measure to improve efficient energy consumption.
In addition to some European companies, among them the ones from Spain, who have been negotiated for the project, some companies of China and South Korea are also potential to contribute to the project.
