According to Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council (INIC), researchers from Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Research Center of Iran boosted the efficiency of dye sensitized solar cells and reduced their production cost by using specified nanostructures.
The research was carried out at laboratorial scale, and nanostructures were synthesized through a simple and economic method with the ability to be mass produced.
The aim of the research was to produce dye sensitized solar cells on one-dimensional nanobar basis to optimize and increase the efficiency of conversion of solar energy into electrical one.
Titanium dioxide nanobars were produced in this research through a simple method. The proposed method reduces the cost but results in mass production of nanobars at bulk scale. In case the nanobars are mass produced at industrial scale, the quick and economic production solar cells will be achieved. This way, dye sensitized solar cells will be produced at reasonable price with high performance, and this fact reduces the dependency to fossil fuels and environmental pollution.
Titanium dioxide nanobars have been mass produced in this research through hydrothermal method. In fact, many parameters can affect the structure and performance of the synthesized nanobars in this method. Nanobar annealing temperature is one of the parameters that affect the final performance of solar cell. Therefore, the effect of annealing temperature on the structure of nanobars and performance of solar cells produced by using the nanobars was studied in this research in details.
Results of the research have been published in Journal of the Chinese Chemical Society, vol. 62, issue 9, 2015, pp. 811-816.
