TEHRAN, Dec. 24 (MNA) – The first Joint Session of Iran’s NIOC and Russia’s Gazprom was launched in Tehran on Wednesday within the framework of previous gas agreements.

Nearly a month after the talks between Iran’s Oil Minister Bijan Zanganeh and the Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak, the new round of gas talks between the two countries was launched in Tehran coinciding with the trip of a top-ranked delegation from Russia’s Gazprom Company.

“At the meeting, the two sides are scheduled to review and examine the agreed-upon issues including engineering, implementation, operation, marketing and research,” said Managing Director for International Relations of the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC) Azizollah Ramezani.

Ramezani further stated that Russia’s Gazprom will discuss venues of cooperation with NIGC officials in the framework of five working groups; “the joint session is attended by a 25-member team led by Gazprom’s Deputy Chairman of the Management Committee Alexander Medvedev as well as Member of Gazprom's Board of Directors Vitaly Markelov.”

Iranian Oil Minister Zanganeh had earlier deemed Russia as a partner of Iran’s oil and gas industries for the post sanction era; “we have invited Russian companies to make investments in underground natural gas storage projects,” he had noted.

“It was agreed that Gazprom will have talks with Iran on cooperation in various gas fields,” said Zanganeh asserting “Iran is ready to collaborate with Russian companies for implementation of the projects.”
