ROME, Dec. 08 (MNA) – Some 230,000 families in eastern Ukraine live in limit situations as they lack nutrients and other elemental resources, reported the UN Food and Agriculture Organization.

"Skipping meals, migrating to look for jobs, borrowing money to pay for expenses, selling house appliances and vehicles, slaughtering the cattle to get some food," are some of the survival strategies used there by the people, said the study.

According to the source, the panorama is bleak for small family farms in the regions of Donetsk and Lugansk, as the conflict hitting the area for over a year pushed up the prices of food, fuels, transport, seeds, fertilizers, animal food and other agricultural and domestic consumables.

This study has allowed us to have a thorough analysis of the dimensions, patterns and causes of the vulnerability of some 700,000 people in eastern Ukraine," said Vladimir Rakhmanin, Under Director General of FAO.

The report recommends the immediate provision of seeds, fertilizers and implements to support agricultural production, besides fodder and restocking to continue animal farming production.
