TEHRAN, Dec. 08 (MNA) – Iranian and Russian foreign ministers held a telephone conversation on Monday on regional issues, stressing the resolution of Syrian crisis with respect to the Geneva Communique of 2012.

During a telephone conversation on Monday which took place upon the initiative of the Iranian minister, the parties discussed the current situation in the Middle East, primarily the prospects for settling the Syrian crisis on the basis of the Geneva Communique of 2012. The two ministers agreed to continue coordinating Russian-Iranian efforts in implementing the Vienna agreements, including the compilation of a list of terrorist groups operating in Syria, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia reported.

Senior officials from China, Egypt, Europe, France, Germany, Iran, Iraq, Italy, United Arab Emirates, Britain, the United Nations and the US took part in a meeting on 30 October in the Austrian capital to discuss and review the severe situation in Syria and ways to end the violent rampages across the Arab country.

Iran’s stance on Syrian issue has been reiterated by Zarif during the peace talks as paying full respect to Syrian people’s decision for the future of their own countries and facilitation of political dialog between the various parties.

Iran also urges all sides involved in the conflict to recognize that terrorism and extremism cannot be used even as temporary assets, stressing a collective effort in the fight against extremist groups operating in the Middle East.

Russia’s plan for ending the nearly five-year-old Syrian conflict involves a call for drafting a new constitution to be put to a popular referendum and be followed by an early presidential election.
