In a communiqué, UN-Women, the United Nations agency in charge of promoting gender equality, announced various actions to celebrate today the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
The campaign Orange the World will be launched again, since this color represents the hope to end this world scourge.
According to UN-Women, various landmarks in the world will be lit in orange, including the Empire State Building in the United States, the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt, the Niagara Falls in Canada and the Ruins of Petra in Jordan.
Orange the World campaign will run until December 10th.
According to executive director of UN-Women Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, during these 16 days she will travel across three continents to raise awareness on the scourge of violence.
