TEHRAN, Nov. 24 (MNA) – Deputy-head of National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company says Iran has managed to indigenize the most complex isomerization catalyst in the world that had been monopolized by an American oil company.

Shahrokh Khosravni told Mehr News correspondent that Iranian specialists for the very first time in the history of Iran and Middle East oil refinery industry have succeeded in obtaining the technological knowledge of the most strategic isomerization catalyst.

Noting that European and American companies had stopped selling isomerization catalysts to Iran’s oil refineries due to sanctions, Khosrovani asserted that for the very first time, this fuly indigenized catalyst has been installed in Isfahan Oil Refinery; “this refinery unit has a capacity of producing 27,000 barrels of crude oil. By utilizing the Iranian catalyst, the country’s daily production of Euro 4 fuel has increased up to 7 million liters,” he said.

The production of isomerization catalysts up to now had been under the monopoly of the American oil company UOP, which has been the market leader for isomerization catalysts to the refining industry since 1958.

Noting that the Iranian-made isomerization catalyst will be installed in oil refineries of Arak, Bandar Abbas, Isfahan or even Persian Gulf Star Oil Company, Khosrovani maintained that Iran is the first country in the Middle East to have obtained the technological knowledge of producing this complex oil-related product.
