During the consular talks between Iran and Switzerland in Bern headed by Foreign Ministry's Consular Director-General Ali Chegini and Urs von Arb, Vice Director for International Cooperation from the Federal Refugee Office the two sides discussed ways to expand consular cooperation between the two countries.
In the meeting which was attended by managers from different sectors of Iranian affairs as well as representatives of Iran’s police force, the two sides exchanged views on ways to further facilitate the travelling of the nationals between the two countries and removing barriers to the expansion of cooperation among people.
Ali Chegini referred to the friendly and long-standing relations between Tehran and Bern as well as the positive prospects ahead, stressing the need for providing proper conditions for closer cooperation in various fields of science, culture, and education.
Ghegini also called for the facilitation of issuing visas for tourists given the two countries’ high capacities in tourism industry.
The two sides also discussed topics on the refugee wave heading for Europe as well as threats stemming from extremism on the two countries’ mutual interest.
Switzerland was the first country to lift its sanctions against Iran in a move to "promote a broad political and economic exchange with Iran,” following the recent historic nuclear deal between Tehran and the 5+1 group of countries.
