Iran may resume its position as Iranian envoy, Mohammad Hossein Adeli, is probably to be re-elected as the secretary general of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) by energy ministers of GECF member states, said Amir-Hossein Zamaninia Iran’s Deputy Oil Minister for International and Commercial Affairs.
The official made the remarks in his Saturday press conference in Tehran.
Zamaninia also added that the head of member states and observer members will arrive in Tehran by November 20, and the first meeting of high officials will be held on the same day. A day later on November 21, the representative of the forum member states will sit the 17th meeting of the ministers of the countries of the forum.
“‘Natural gas; chosen for stable development,’ is the slogan of the conference which has an environmental message for UN climate talks known as COP21 to be held in Paris,” noted Zamaninia.
The Iranian official was referring to the 21st annual meeting of the world's leaders in Paris, from 30 November to 11 December, to work towards the objectives laid out in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change treaty.
In addition to Islamic Republic of Iran, Russia, Qatar, Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Libya, Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela, Peru, the United Arab Emirates, and Oman are main members of GECF. The Netherlands, Kazakhstan, Iraq, and Norway are the forum’s observer members.
After the first GECF meeting was held in Doha in 2011, the forum members held their second conference in 2013 in Moscow where Mohammad Hossein Adeli was elected as the secretary general of the conference.
Under spotlight is the point that the nuclear agreement of July 14 between Iran and the 5+1 group of countries has provided the possibility of a new round of gas partnership between Iran and the world as since then delegations have flocked to Tehran to gain a better share in post-sanctions markets.
