TEHRAN, Oct. 19 (MNA) – Iran’s VP Ebtekar commented on the alignment of domestic environmental policies with global plans like the SDGs.

“Coincidence of drafting Iran’s Sixth Plan of Development with the adoption of the final document of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) calls upon us to protect Iran’s environment regarding international indicators,” said Iran’s Vice-President and the Head of Department of Environment Masoumeh Ebtekar at the twelfth session of the Committee on Environment of Iran’s Sixth Plan of Development.

The meeting was held on Monday in Tehran at Sarv Auditorium of Iran’s Department of Environment.

Further, Ebtekar called for measures to encounter water crisis in Iran as she recounted the situation in neighbor-to-desert provinces of Iran like Kerman where she had just recently paid a visit and surveyed the local environmental problems.

She also urged rolling planning approach in drafting environmental policies to secure adaptation of Iran’s policies with global programs.

Along with Ebtekar a host of other ranking officials were present in the meeting and in their addresses they touched upon other environmental concerns like garbage dumped into seas and oceans, urban and rural waste management and treatment, and water consumption.
