In a meeting with Secretary General of GECF Mohammad Hossein Adeli on Sunday, Bijan Zanganeh said, “Iran was the founder of GECF and the member countries play a major role in global oil market."
The oil minister noted that the third summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) will be held in Tehran in November and said the heads of the member countries are expected to attend the gathering.
Supporting the activities of GECF, Zanganeh underlined the existence of the necessary coordination between the President and the Ministry of Oil to hold the gathering in Tehran.
The minister deemed the presence of GECF’s officials in Tehran as important and said the meeting will be held at the highest level with the attendance of member countries’ presidents.
The third summit of GECF will be held in Tehran while the nuclear agreement between Iran and the 5+1 group of countries has provided the possibility of a new round of gas partnership between Iran and the world.
Meanwhile, several heads of countries are expected to visit Tehran to attend the summit including Russia’s President Vladimir Putin, Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro, the President of UAE Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed, the Iraqi President Fuad Masum, the President of Algeria Abdelaziz Bouteflika, the Emir of Qatar Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, Sultan Qaboos of Oman and senior officials of other gas producing countries.
The Gas Exporting Countries Forum is made up of 18 main and observer members. Iran, Russia, Qatar, Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Libya, Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela, Peru and the United Arab Emirates are the main members of the forum.
The Netherlands, Kazakhstan, Iraq, Norway and Oman will also take part in the forum’s summit as observer members.
