On Saturday, number one world ranking fighter and the 2015 world champion Farzan Ashourzadeh conceded a defeat to his Spanish rival Jesus Tortosa in the semi-finals to grab the bronze medal of the tournament which is being held in Manchester, Britain.
The Spanish taekwondo fighter had a better performance in the first round while repetitive warnings on the part of the game’s referee prevented our country’s representative to have the necessary concentration.
In the second round, Ashourzade out performed his rival and changed the result to 4 draw while the third round also came to an end with yet another draw at the score of 8; therefore, the two taekwondo practitioners had to fight in the fourth round to determine the winner where the Spanish rival snatched a point at the beginning of the round to down Ashourzadeh.
Ashourzadeh had received a bye in the first round but could defeat his French opponent 4-1 to later down the Serbian fighter 9-5 in order to reach the semi-finals.
On Friday, Iran’s Abolfazl Yaghoubi Jouybari also had snatched the silver medal in the minus 68-kilogram weight division after he conceded a 7-16 defeat to his 23-year-old South Korean opponent Lee Dae-Hoon in the final encounter of the category.
Omid Amidi, the other Iranian bronze winner had also defeated his German, British, Azerbaijai rivals in the men’s over 80-kilogram weight class and was downed by Uzbekistan’s Dmitry Shokin 9-5 in the semi-final.
So far, Iran’s national team has snatched one silver medal as well as two bronze medals and today Mahdi Kbodabakhshi will fight against his opponents as Iran’s last representative in the tournament.
