“The Syrian stage is going through new developments,” said Alaeddin Boroujerdi, Iran’s Chairman of Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission on Saturday upon his arrival in Tehran.
Having met top officials of Syria and Lebanon in his latest tour of the countries fighting with the ISIL, the senior Iranian MP returned to Tehran to attend the core group meeting of the Munich Security Conference (MSC).
On the accomplishments of his tour, Boroujerdi told the reporters that “after Russians’ moves in Syria the scene is changing rapidly and good news are on the way for Syrians.”
“Russians’ airstrikes have had psychological and military effects resulting into liberation of many areas under the control of terrorists,” noted the ranking MP.
He explained that Syrian and Lebanese problems are so interwoven that visiting one necessitates paying visit to the other. “Concerns over the spread of terrorism now has become unanimous and that is a good sign in fight against the ISIL,” affirmed Iranian MP.
Commenting on Iran’s presence in Syria he described it ‘wholly advisory’ and added that ‘any new request of help from Syria would be weighed by the Islamic Republic.’
Boroujerdi explained that Russia’s involvement in Syrian war on terror came after the official request of Syrians and added that Russians have voiced readiness to provide the same kind of help to Iraqis.
“Quadrolateral coalition of Iran, Syria, Iraq and Russia is just cooperation in sharing the intelligence services and is totally different from air operations of the Russians,” he said elaborating on the nature of the alliance against the ISIL.
He also lashed at Americans as ‘not fighting terrorism but arming terrorists,’ saying that the US has brought up terrorists in Syria. Boroujerdi made similar remarks on Saudi regime’s involvement in feeding terrorist groups of Wahabi beliefs.
He also dismissed the claims made by Americans on the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2231 and described the resolution different from the JCPOA.
