TEHRAN, Oct. 10 (MNA) – A senior IRGC Commander General Hossein Hamedani was martyred in Syria on Friday while on advisory mission in the country.

The public relations office of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) issued a statement on Friday, announcing the martyrdom of a senior IRGC commander in Syria during his advisory mission in Syrian fight against ISIL terrorists.

The statement adds he was killed by Takfiris in Aleppo Province while in mission.

The Syrian military has been fighting the terrorist groups for over four years. Iran has been offering Syria military advice in its fight against terrorist groups.

Since March 2011, about 250,000 people have lost their lives and millions more have been displaced by the turmoil in Syria. Syrian Army and nation have been in fight against several terrorist groups including Al-Nusra Front which is officially supported and trained by the United States and the ISIL which according to US intelligence officials was "willfully" overseen to form in 2012.
