NEW YORK, Oct. 01 (MNA) – Iranian Deputy FM attended the opening of a UN photo gallery on the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.

Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs, was one of high-ranking officials who opened UN photo gallery on the occasion of the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.

Following Iran’s recommendation, in 2013, the UN General Assembly named September 26 as the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons.

This year, the event was celebrated at the UN on Wednesday.

In the opening ceremony, Iran’s senior diplomat expressed his content with the acceptance of President Rouhani’s recommendation to bold the importance of elimination and disarmament of nuclear weapons with naming September 26 the International Day for a necessary cause.

Araghchi burdened nuclear states with the responsibility for total eliminating of nuclear weapons and asked them to get aligned with their legal duties.

The Iranian diplomat reaffirmed that it is a rightful demand of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) for immediate starting of negotiations to draft an international nuclear convention.
