TEHRAN, Sep. 27 (MNA) – Iranian national futsal team claimed the title of 2015 AFC Women’s Futsal Championship after beating Japan 1-0 in a thrilling final on Saturday.

On Saturday, the Iranian sportswomen played good defense against the offensive Japanese team in a match played at the Nilai Indoor Stadium in the western Malaysian city of Nilai.

It was in the eighth minute that Fereshteh Karimi surprised Japan goalkeeper Ayaka Yamamoto with a fierce drive and seized a marvelous chance and scored the winner for the Iranians.

She was also named as the Most Valuable Player of the competition.

Iran started the competition with a 6-0 victory over Hong Kong and then defeated Uzbekistan 9-1 and Malaysia 4-2. Iran had defeated Thailand 1-0 in the semi-final.

Thailand finished third after defeating Malaysia 4-1.

The 2015 AFC Women’s Futsal Championship started in Nilai, Malaysia, on September 21 and wrapped up on September 26.
