TEHRAN, Sep. 27 (MNA) – Iranian Oil Minister said the country is ready to sell crude oil to Poland, adding this would be the first step toward a fresh start in the two countries’ relations.

Iran’s Oil Minister Bijan Zangeneh held talks with Polish Minister for Economy and First Deputy Minister Janusz Piechociński in the Iranian capital Tehran on Thursday.

Zangeneh noted that Poland has expressed its readiness for resuming cooperation with Iran in various energy projects, adding “given that the refineries in Poland have been renovated, the country can make great use of Iran’s crude oil, hence Iran’s proposition that Poland should purchase crude oil from Iran in the first phase.”

The Iranian minister added that the other topic discussed during the talks was the purchase of Iran's Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG), saying “there are terminals constructed in Poland for LNG imports and it has been agreed that Iran would export LNG to this country.”

According to Zanganeh, with the completion of LNG projects in the country, Iran will start exporting it.

Tehran-Warsaw fresh round of talks began while the peak of level of transactions between the two countries dated back to 2012-13, standing at some 500 million dollars in a year. The experts however believe that Iran and Poland’s economic capacities can make it possible for this figure to reach one billion dollars in a year.

Prior to Poland, some South African countries, Greece and Italy have expressed readiness to resume importing oil from Iran. India, South Korea, China and Japan have also welcomed an increase in their purchase of Iranian oil.

A high-level Polish delegation including pharmaceutical, chemical and railway executives is in Tehran to discuss trade opportunities. Poland’s Economy Minister Janusz Piechociński is leading the group of some 60 representatives of businesses, including railway manufacturers Newag and Pesa.
