LUXEMBOURG, Sep. 22 (MNA) – The Luxembourg-Cuba Friendship Association demanded yesterday the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States to the island for more than 50 years.

“That siege contravenes the international law, the UN Charter, and rules and principles governing relations between the States,” said president of the association Joel Wunsch, in communications sent to the government and the Deputy Chamber of his country.

Wunsch refers to the damage that unilateral measure has caused to the Caribbean country, which is increasingly condemned each year by a large majority of countries at the UN General Assembly.

He also demanded the dismantling of the illegal naval base which Washington has maintained in a territory occupied in the eastern Cuban province of Guantanamo, since early last century.

“We demand the government and legislators to support these requests in the context of the Luxembourg presidency of the European Union, intervening with U.S. authorities in the bilateral meetings and at the Union,” he said.
