On Monday, the Iranian volleyball team lost the match played at the Tokyo Metropolitan Gymnasium to Australia 0-3 (27-25, 27-25, and 25-22), making it the sixth loss in nine played matches in the 2015 Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) World Cup currently being held in Japan.
Iranian volleyball players did not play up to their expected standards in this match and yielded victory to the Australian side in all three sets.
Iran’s national volleyball team had not lost a match to any Asian team in the past recent years and today’s defeat as well as the two sets lost against Japan on Friday have set off high alarms for Iran’s volleyball.
The Iranian sportsmen are slated to face Canada on September 21 in their tenth match of the international tournament.
The 2015 FIVB Volleyball Men's World Cup currently underway in Japan kicked off on September 8 and will run until September 23. The tournament is a qualification process for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The top two teams will qualify for the Olympics, and join Brazil as they have already secured a berth as the host country.
