Meeting the Dutch foreign minister, Rouhani said that Tehran-Amsterdam enjoy historic relations and added that “the two countries hold great capacities for expanding bilateral ties in political, cultural and economic fields. Although Iran’s economic ties with the Netherlands shrunk in the past few years but today we should compensate.”
Talking about regional issues, Rouhani added “the Middle East faces many problems nowadays most of which are imposed from outside of the region. Terrorism should not be considered as a regional issue and it requires a global campaign.”
The president also talked about the refugees crisis saying that it will be solved through fighting against terrorism.
Conssidering that from the first half of 2016 the Netherlands will hold the presidency of the European Union, Rouhani added “the country can have a vital role in Iran and EU’s relations in the post-sanctions era.”
Bert Koenders, for his part, conveyed the warm regards of his country’s prime minister to the Iranian president and said “the Netherlands believes that it can boost its ties and relations with Iran following the victory of the country’s multilateral diplomacy gained after the nuclear deal.”
Talking about his country’s presidency in EU, the Dutch official added “certainly one of our priorities will be the implementation of the nuclear deal and we will try to lead the agreements to improved ties between Iran, the Netherlands and EU.”
He also added that both countries could boost relations, in line with mutual interests, in different economic fields particularly energy, oil and gas.
Bert Koenders stressed on fighting against terrorism adding that countering the phenomenon is complicated and holds social, political and military aspects. He hoped that the issue will be solved with the help of Iran and the determination of other countries.
