Amir-Abdollahian and UN Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed exchanged views on the latest developments in the war-torn Arab country during a telephone conversation on Saturday.
The Iranian diplomat expressed gratitude to the UN secretary general and his envoy's efforts, saying that insist on using military force against Yemen has harmed the inter-Yemeni negotiations under UN sponsorship. "UN failure to stop the Humanitarian tragedy in Yemen has damaged its credit in defending the International Humanitarian Law," Amir-Abodollahian underlined.
He said the Islamic Repbulic of Iran expects that on the verge of Eid al-Adha, the UN uses all its capacity to stop war and bloodshed in Yemen.
Iran's deputy FM stressed the need for the acceleration of dispatching of humanitarian assistance to the war victims in Yemen.
Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, for his part, referred to the latest efforts to encourage inter-Yemeni talks in Muscat and said the crisis in Yemen can only be settled through political solution, not a military one.
"Every influential domestic and foreign side in Yemen has to contribute to the atmosphere of direct negotiations among Yemeni groups so that truce will be established within the shortest possible time," he added.
He described the prudent understanding by political groups and parties of the existing realities and paying attention to people's interests and demands among main prerequisites to the establishment of peace and stability in Yemen.
